Mike's Story
Life
Been living in Blackhawk California for the last 20 years and loving every minute of it. Blackhawk is 45 minutes East of the city by the Bay- San Francisco and is a beautful mountain town with a temperate climate that allows you to golf year around. Gm transfered us to this beautiful area 20 years ago and we decided to stay. After working as a Sales Executive for 20 years with GM, I became Editor of a Golf magazine Golf Today--which is in 4 Western States--California, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada and reaches 3 million golfers. I just introduced my third successful golf book Top 25 Secrets Of Golf available via Amazon.com and dedicated it to my son MJ Mc Colgan and the 9000 Special Olympic Golfers worldwide. MJ and I play in the Alternate Shot Ryder Cup format and are the 2001,2002,2003,2004 California State Special Olympics Golf Champions and 2002 and 2003 National Silver Medal Champions at the PGA in Port St. Lucie Florida. In 2004 we won the Gold Medal at the National Championship at the PGA in Soutnern California. in 2007, win our 5th straight California Championship and another National Championship in 2005. Like Casey Martin Mj requires a golf cart to play due to a slight strain of cerebral palsy. MJ was inducted into the 2004 San Francisco Sports Hall Of Fame for his many accomplishments and has been nominated for the Michigan 2005 Hall Of Fame since he was born in Michigan. Some past inductees in the SF Hall Of Fame include John Madden, Randy Johnson, and Dave Casper. He has also been selected to be a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics speaking to businesses and organizations about winning and overcoming adversity. He has also been nominated for the 2005 Nike Casey Martin Award. If he wins, Nike will donate $25,000 in his name to a charity of his choice at an induction dinner at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. My wife Linda attends all of the torunaments and is a high level Executive with GM-Toyota in California at the NUMMI assembly plant in charge of Purchasing.
